5. Objectives

By the end of this lecture students will be
able:
– to distinguish the stages of writing activities
– to design pre-writing and post-writing
activities.

6. Self-Reflection

• How did you feel when were to write smth.
at school or at the university?
• What do you think a person should know
when writing in a foreign language?
- the writing code, spelling, punctuation,
grammar, lexis, linking words, background
knowledge, text type, the aim, the
audience, the size.

7. Work in pairs

• What did you write in your own /foreign language
in the last 48 hours? Make one list.
• Look at your list. For three of your items say the
following:
– the aim (e.g. to remind of, to inform)
– the audience (the person who read it)
– the genre, or text type (e.g. shopping list, personal
letter)

8. Writing activities

• Look at examples of writing activities from
coursebooks. Identify four different
characteristics for each writing activity.

• D) level (beginner, intermediate, etc.)

• Watch the video and follow all the lesson
stages of the writing activity

16. Pre-Writing

• Choose one of the writing activities from
the previous step. What would you do to
prepare your learners for writing? Think
about:
- introducing the topic of your writing
activity
- introducing helpful language
- get the learners interested in the topic

17. Post-Writing

• Design a post-writing activity for your
learners, practising another skill
(e.g. speaking)

18. Assignment

• Design a pre-writing and post-writing
activity for the writing assignment. Write
down the aim, audience, genre, level of
the writing activity.
