What is Cross Flow Filtration?
Cross-flow filtration is different
from “Dead End/Barrier Filtration
because:
The majority of the feed flow
travels tangentially across the
surface of the filter, rather than into
the filter.
The principal advantage of this is
that the filter cake (which can blind
the filter) is substantially washed
away during the filtration process.
This process increases the length
of time that a filter unit can be
operational. It can be a continuous
process, unlike batch-wise deadend filtration.

Advanced Cross Flow Filtration
The Encotech Patented Integration Process
Maintaining a regulated pressure differential
across the screen and creating a condition where
particles prefer to flow past the screen rather than
through it – resulting in even cleaner filtrate.
An advanced filtration system that utilizes a pair
of set points, one being flow rate and the other
pressure differential, to achieve a high-capacity
filtration rate with greatly reduced filtration
system fouling.
Helps prevent irreversible fouling causing a
significant drop in particulate filtering and
damage to the membrane.
Longer Run Time, significantly less fouling of the
filter membrane, reduced maintenance, and
personnel costs.
The Encotech patented integration includes a
highly efficient Automated process for cleaning.
Often allows for a much smaller footprint than
traditional Activated Carbon Tanks.

Encotech’s Patented Advanced Cross Flow Filtration
Integration over
Traditional Dead End/Barrier Filtration
Dead-end filtration systems have been the primary filtering technology
for decades and continue to be successfully employed for numerous
applications, however they do present a number of limitations
including:
All the fluid in the water stream passes through the filter screen and all
particles larger than the pore size of the filter screen are held at the surface of
the screen.
As trapped particles build up, a cake layer starts to form on the surface of the
filter screen which increasingly decreases system efficiency until the filter cake
is washed away with a backwash cycle, or until the filter screen is replaced.
A significant amount of water must be utilized on a constant basis for the
backwash cycles to keep the filtering system active.
For filters such as bags and cartridges, the aforementioned fouling, results in
higher maintenance, man hours, downtime, and consumables costs, not to
mention more waste disposal (from discarded filters). Filter Screen.

EEFS Series Large Particle Filtration
Encotech’s EFS Series of Large Particle Filtration systems are is designed to
process a wide range of difficult-to-treat feed waters. It is an ideal alternative
to traditional filtration systems, with lower operating costs, greater ease of
operation and maintenance, and fully automated system controls. By using
an interior brush assembly powered by an exterior motor, our filtration
systems consistently tolerate high and highly variable Total Suspended Solids
(TSS), up to 10,000 mg/l
Water recovery is typically >99%, minimizing disposal volumes.
Encotech’s Spiral Filter Unit’s combine Crossflow filter technology with
Encotech’s advanced controls and operation strategy. The Units operate
automatically, with a Programmable Logic Controller monitoring flow rates,
pressure, and system outputs, ensuring ease of use and optimal system run
time. Each unit is capable of filtering particle size 1cm3 down to 10
This is an automatic self-cleaning filter designed to remove Ultra High and
Variable Total Suspended Solids (TSS) from a fluid stream. Each unit contains
a motor driven, spiral shaped brush that continuously cleans collected debris
from inside the filter element.
These are designed for high TSS /BOD removal with the ability to handle high
TSS loading of over 500 ppm and process bulk solids removal up to
15,000mg/l TSS (15% by volume), while providing continuous flow while
providing continuous 15-to-1500-micron filtration. The purge technology
concentrates solids to reduce waste or in some cases, for potential resale.

EFL Micro Filtration
The Encotech Microfiltration System is a patented, highly efficient,
automated filtration system, ideal for applications that require small
particle filtration with high Total Suspended Solid (TSS) loads.
The EF Microfiltration System brings together the benefits of cross-flow
filtration and two integral cleaning mechanisms – ultrasonic generation
and high pressure back pulsing. EF Microfiltration Systems are capable
of removing particulates to below a 1 micron particle size, and are
designed for ease of maintenance, long runtimes, and efficient
operations; filter screens can be replaced with hand tools, if needed

EFU Ultra-Filtration
For certain applications, pre-filtration may be required
The Encotech Ultra-filtration System is a patented,
highly efficient, automated ultrafiltration system,
ideal for applications that require tight particle
filtration with high Total Suspended Solid (TSS)
loads.
The Ultra-filtration
System utilizes cross-flow
Ultrafiltration technology to provide high flux,
uninterrupted filtration down to 0.03-micron
particle size, and is designed for ease of
maintenance, long runtimes, and efficient
operations; Encotech’s Ultra-filtration integration
self-cleans while maintaining flow rate. This design
allows for continuous operation and eliminates the
need for backwash holding. Encotech proposes an
alternate UF30U8 System Feed/Recycle Pump
constructed of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
and additional modifications as needed such that
any wetted components are constructed of the
appropriate materials for corrosive conditions.
