The causes of schizophrenia are not fully understood, it is believed that both genetic andenvironmental factors are responsible for the development of this disease. The latter sometimes
play the role of a trigger mechanism.The incidence rate in different populations is from 0.2 to
1%. It is more common in urban residents, and there are no sexual differences in the frequency of
occurrence, but it occurs somewhat earlier in men. The average age of onset of the disease is 22
± 7 years.
