General characteristics of the transport complex of Russia The
transport complex is an independent branch of the national economy of
the country. Transport is designed to meet the needs of the economy
and the population in transportation, linking various sectors of the
economy and regions of the country into a single whole. Transport does
not create new products, but moves already created by other branches
of the economy (provides a service), increasing its cost by the amount
of transport costs. Transport plays an important role in the
development of foreign economic relations with countries.

Railway transport is the basis of the transport system of the Russian
Federation. This is due to the economic and geographical peculiarities
of our country. Railway transport is one of the types of public transport.
It is effective for transporting goods over medium and long distances,
and passengers on commuter lines and over long distances. The main
task of the railways of Russia is to provide reliable transport links
between the European part of the country and its eastern regions. The
most dense and extensive railway network is located in the European
part of the Russian Federation.
