Childhood and youthThe boy grew up athletic and mobile, so at the age of 8, his
parents sent their son to the volleyball section. Later, the
young athlete moved to St. Petersburg, where he studied at
the Ekran Olympic Reserve School.
In the early 2000s, the teenager moved to Yaroslavl to play
for the Builder team, which is the base for the junior
national team. Already in his first season with the club,
Maxim got to the World Cup in Algeria, and was a junior
member of the team.

Sports careerThe next season, 2005/2006, Mikhailov played for the
main team of Neftyanik as a finishing player. In the fall of
2006, the team took gold at the European Championship,
and a year later the volleyball player distinguished
himself at the world tournament in Morocco Those two
seasons were also marked by other important events in
Maxim's professional biography. For example, an athlete
mastered the position of a diagonal striker, became the
most productive player in the Russian championship and
was invited to the Russian national volleyball team.

In 2008, as part of the national team, Mikhailov fought withforeign rivals, first in the World League in Rio de Janeiro, and then
in the Olympic Games in Beijing. The next two seasons Maxim still
represented the Yaroslavl club, which changed its name to
Yaroslavich, and in 2010 he moved to Zenit Kazan. A year later, the
volleyball player became the champion of Russia as part of the
club, then received the Andrey Kuznetsov prize as the best player
of the national tournament and took the first title of the leader
of the Champions League in his career.

Returning to Kazan, Mikhailov headed Zenit and as part ofthe national team again received the title of winner of
the World League. But Maxim had to miss almost the
entire next season due to a serious injury and operations
on both ankles.
The volleyball player returned to the national team in
2015 and began preparing for the Olympics in Rio de
Janeiro.
The 2017/2018 season brought several more titles to
Mikhailov's piggy bank.In the summer of 2018, Maxim was
marked by a victory in the first ever tournament of the
League of Nations.

Personal lifeMikhailov met his wife during performances in
Beijing at the 2008 Olympic Games. Anastasia is
the granddaughter of the famous Yaroslavl
restorer Alexey Egorov. And in June 2014 they
got married. On July 15, 2015, their son Nikita
was born in their family.
