OUR HISTORY
The organization was founded in 1984 by Dr. Robert Simon, together
with a group of American physicians and nurses.
Goals for International Medical Corps is a global, nonprofit, aid
organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering by providing
emergency medical services, as well as healthcare training and
development programs, to those affected by disaster, disease.

International Medical Corps works in some 30 countries in
Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
International Medical Corps focuses on health services
support, including primary and secondary healthcare,
prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
Within the foundation of primary health care delivery, they
have developed the following program priorities: Emergency
Response ,Health Capacity Building ,Women’s and Children’s
Health and Well-Being ,Mental Health,Clean Water,
Sanitation and Hygiene.

International Medical Corps is working to relieve the suffering
of those affected by war, natural disaster and disease.They can
deliver vital healthcare services that focus on training and help
devastated populations return to self-reliance.

For more than 25 years, International Medical Corps has helped
communities rebuild their health care capacities and basic institutions
by leveraging their experience, technical experience with local leaders.
A significant number of their responses have included for nutrition
and food security programs as well as the treatment and control of
immuno-preventable and epidemic diseases. Their more than 4,000
field-based staff includes approximately 200 physicians and public
health experts as well as 10 Medical Directors coordinating their
activities at national and regional levels.

related activities that strengthen underserved communities worldwide. With the
flexibility to respond rapidly to emergencies, they offer medical services and training to
people at the highest risk, always working to strengthen local healthcare systems and

We are a global humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives and

journey from relief to self-reliance. Training underpins all of what we do.

communities and enable self-reliance.

OUR WORK
International Medical Corps plays a leading role in the
advancement of mental health systems in humanitarian
settings. We contribute to the development of global
guidelines and national policies for improving mental health
and well-being among affected populations.

WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S
H E A LT H
International Medical Corps considers women’s and children’s health a key priority
for healthy communities. Because women constitute the foundation of both families
and communities, their well-being is essential for the success of those around them.
Protecting that well-being is a central challenge of Women’s and Children’s Health in
most communities.
International Medical Corps contributes to better health outcomes and reduction of
common childhood illnesses and deaths through our programs that include
vaccinations against communicable diseases, growth monitoring, early childhood
development interventions and community-based case management of common
childhood illnesses.

LEADERSHIP
International Medical Corps Worldwide is a global humanitarian
alliance that comprises the resources and capabilities of two
independent affiliate organizations, International Medical Corps and
International Medical Corps UK. Together, our mission is to save lives
and relieve suffering through the provision of health care through
training. With headquarters in the United States and the United
Kingdom respectively, we collaborate to maximize resources for the
delivery of appropriate relief and development activities.
