• Authotrophs – organic substances either
as a result of photosynthesis (plants) or
chemosynthesis (some bacteria)
• Heterotrophs-consumers that don’t
produce organic substances (animals)

• Metabolism –use of organic substances within
the cells which gives rise to energy production
• Anabolic reactions – digested foods particles are
absorbed the cell
• Catabolic reactions –Ingested food is catabolized
within the cell, providing energy and etc.
