Magic
Mountain
Hotel

2.

The "Magic Mountain"
hotel (Montaña
Mágica)
is in Chile, in the Huilo Huilo reserve. It's a very
unusual place — the building is shaped like a green
mountain or volcano, and a real waterfall falls from
its roof day and night. It looks like the hotel is part
of wild nature.
You can only get into the hotel on foot across a
hanging bridge — that adds to the adventure.
There is also a spa with pools and restaurants. This
is a place for those who want not just to spend the
night, but to feel like they are in a fairytale.

3.

Inside, everything is made of wood and stone,
like in a cave. There are only a few rooms, and
instead of numbers, the doors have names of
local birds. There are no TVs in the rooms — so
nothing distracts you from resting and enjoying
the forest.

4.

Creation
Story
The project was implemented by architect
Rodrigo Verdugo. Construction was completed in
2005. However, the idea and concept began to
take shape around 1999. The hotel was built in
the private Huilo Huilo biological reserve.
The concept is directly linked to the local culture
and nature. The creators were inspired by two
things at once:
• A legend
• The beliefs of the Mapuche people

5.

PROS and
Cons
1. Unique fairy-tale architecture shaped like a volcano
with a real waterfall flowing from the top.
2. Incredible immersion in nature within the protected
Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve.
3. Eco-friendly concept and total harmony with the
surrounding Patagonian forest.
4. Wide range of outdoor activities available nearby (hot
springs, hiking, canopy tours, wildlife watching).
5. Cozy, rustic wooden interior that creates a magical,
romantic atmosphere.

6.

Pros and
CONS
1. Remote and hard-to-reach location, requiring a long
journey from major cities.
2. High prices for accommodation, food, and additional
services.
3. Rustic and simple room amenities, lacking the
standards of modern luxury hotels.
4. The constant sound of the waterfall outside the
window can be noisy for light sleepers.
5. Unpredictable Patagonian weather (frequent rain and
cold) can limit outdoor activities.

7.

Interesting
facts
• Nature: The reserve covers about 60,000 hectares, home
to the rare pudu deer, which stands only 33 cm tall.
• Activities: Guests are offered river rafting, horseback
riding, and the longest zipline in South America. The local
hot tubs are carved directly from the trunks of huge trees.
• Philosophy of seclusion: The hotel has only about 12–13
rooms, and they intentionally have no televisions. This is
part of a "disconnect from the world" policy so guests can
fully immerse themselves in nature and the sounds of the
waterfall.

8.

Interesting
facts
• Hotel entrance: You can only get inside on foot, crossing
a suspension bridge through the forest.
• Rooms: The hotel has only 12–13 small rooms (about 10
sq. m), each named after local birds.
• Uniqueness: The main highlight is the waterfall that
"erupts" every day and washes over the guests' windows.
