IntroductionTsoi became a symbol of the perestroika era (19851991).
His lyrics are about freedom, self-discovery, the
weariness of lies, and hope.
In 1990, after his death, a spontaneous wave of
remembrance emerged in the USSR, with graffiti
appearing on the walls of buildings that read "Tsoi is
alive."
Today, his songs are featured in movies, karaoke
performances, and rallies. "Change!" has become an
unofficial anthem of the 1990s.
