2. Leaning Tower of Pisa
The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Tuscany, Italy) is themost famous leaning building in the world. Its
height is 55.8 m, weight is 14,500 tons, and the
degree of deviation from the vertical is up to 4
degrees. On August 9, 1173, construction of the
Leaning Tower of Pisa began.
The process of building the tower was very long.
After three tiers of the bell tower were ready, it
turned out that the clay soil was not able to
support a massive marble structure - the building
was leaning to the south. Because of this, the
construction of the stone tower was frozen for a
whole century - until 1272.
