2.

Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi
was born on July 22, 1895,
in the small village of
Glubokoye near Vitebsk.

3.

He was the only son in a
family of six children.

4.

In 1905, he witnessed the first
flight of an airplane, a moment
that forever inspired his dream
of aviation.

5.

In 1914, he graduated
from the Gomel
Gymnasium with a silver
medal and aspired to study
aeronautics in Moscow.

6.

However, the First World War
disrupted his plans. He served as
an artillery officer on the
Western Front. After the war
and the revolution, he briefly
worked as a teacher, but he
never forgot his passion for
flying.

7.

In 1921, he entered the Moscow
Higher Technical College, where
he studied under the "father of
Russian aviation" Nikolai
Zhukovsky. While still a student,
he began working at TsAGI
alongside the legendary aircraft
designer Andrei Tupolev. Sukhoi
quickly became Tupolev's trusted
deputy and contributed to the
development of the recordbreaking ANT-25 aircraft.

8.

In 1939, he was granted his own
independent design bureau, OKB51, where he created his first
aircraft, the Su-2 bomber. Despite
his early success, his bureau was
shut down in 1949 due to political
pressure and technical setbacks.
Sukhoi returned to work under
Tupolev, waiting for the right
moment to resume his own
projects. In 1953, with the
intensification of the Cold War,
his bureau was reopened, and he
began creating legendary
supersonic aircraft.

10.

Pavel Sukhoi passed away on
September 15, 1975, just a
few months before the first
test flight of the Su-27.
Among his colleagues, he was
known as "the silent one"
because of his quiet, reserved
nature. Today, his name lives
on in the legendary Su aircraft
that continue to protect the
skies.
