Painting styles in art and
my favorite artists
Impressionism and post-impressionism
Realism

2.

Impressionism
1870-1880
Key idea: To depict the impression of
what was seen one's emotions and
fleetings
Technique: Characterized by the use
of short, quick brushstrokes of pure
color, creating a shimmering and
moving effect. Artists often worked en
plein air (outdoors) to capture natural
light.
Themes: Depiction of the positive
aspects of life, everyday scenes,
landscapes, urban leisure, without
deep social or moral subtext.
Representatives: Claude Monet
(considered the founder), PierreAuguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille
Pissarro

3.

Postimpressionism
1880-1900
Key idea: It was created as a reaction to
Impressionism. Artists wanted to go
beyond mere visual impressions,
introducing symbolism, emotional
content, and decorativeness into their
works.
Technique: there are more methods, the
colors have become brighter, the
brushstrokes are larger and more
extensive
Themes: Although they still painted
landscapes, they added personal
experiences, reflections on form and
composition. The paintings became
more about the artist's inner world, not
just the surrounding reality.
Representatives: Vincent van Gogh, Paul
Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat

4.

Realism 18301900
Key idea: Objective and truthful
depiction of reality
Technique: Multiple details and
subtleties, often delicate colors
Themes: Characters often find
themselves in conflict, but many
artists also depicted nature in
their paintings
Representatives:Ivan Aivazovsky,
Eugene Delacroix, Caspar David
Friedrich, Karl Bryullov

5.

Klod Mone
1840-1900
The French artist, the founder of
Impressionism, wanted to convey
the impression of nature using
techniques unusual for his time.
He often painted the same
landscapes at different times of
day and in different seasons to
show color changes.

6.

Vincent Van Gog
1853-1890
He used vibrant colors in his
paintings. This helped him
convey feelings and emotions.
Today, he is considered one of
the greatest artists and is famous
throughout the world. He was a
talented but very unhappy man
who created amazing art that
was only appreciated and
understood after his death.

7.

Ivan Aivazovsky
1817-1900
A world-renowned Russian artist
and master of seascapes, he
became famous for his ability to
paint the sea. Like Monet, he
depicted the sea at different
times of day and in different
weather. His paintings are
breathtaking and truly delightful.
