Since 1876, he has been in the diplomatic
service, which he began in Rome as an attaché
and then as the 3rd Secretary of the Embassy.
He later held various diplomatic positions in
Tokyo (Japan), Vienna (Austria-Hungary),
Darmstadt (German Empire), and again in
Rome and Berlin.
From 1903 to 1908, he served as
Ambassador to Sofia (Bulgaria).
• From 1908 to 1910, he was Ambassador to
The Hague (Netherlands).
