Baroque
• In architecture, Baroque is a style characterized by
dynamism, tension, surprise, grandeur, and opulence.
The term "Baroque" comes from the Portuguese word
"barroco," which means "an irregularly shaped pearl."

3.

creator
• He was named one of the authors of the
Baroque architectural style, which
originated in Italy, primarily in Rome, in
the mid-16th century. However,
researchers believe that Michelangelo
Buonarroti was the first innovator to
depart from the classical canons of the
Renaissance. His late works from the
mid-16th century, such as the staircase
of the Laurentian Library and the New
Sacristy in Florence, as well as the Porta
Pia in Rome, are characterized by their
experimentation with form.

4.

• The main elements of the
Baroque architectural style are
evident in the design of facades
and interiors, as well as in the
layout of buildings. The style
originated in Italy in the late 16th
century and spread throughout
Europe, reaching its peak in the
17th and 18th centuries.

Outstanding architects
- Italy
Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini - Baroque architect and sculptor. Created St. Peter's
Square in the Vatican, where the colonnade creates an artificial perspective and
visually increases the size of the cathedral.
- France
Louis Le Vau - created the project of the Palace of Versailles - the main
architectural symbol of French absolutism. The baroque theme in the design of the
facade is marked only by sculptures, which expressive forms contrast with the
straight geometry of the building.
- Germany
Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann - created the Zwinger palace complex in Dresden
with pavilions, galleries and a garden, designed for court festivities.
- Spain
Jose Churrigera and his students - created the style churrigueresco - rich
ornamentation of surfaces with broken pediments and cornices, curls, volutes and
stucco. For example, the palace of the marquises Dos Aguas (Valencia) - a
residential house-mansion of the early 18th century.

Some examples of Baroque-style buildings in
Novosibirsk:
-The Zapsibzoloto Administration Building. On the main
(eastern) facade facing Sverdlov Square, there is a frieze
that illustrates the work of gold mining workers. The
frieze is complemented by volutes on either side, with
"Baroque" cones placed on top.
-The P. A. Smirnova Women's Gymnasium Building. It
was constructed in the early 1900s. This is an example of
a mixed-type public building combining elements of
Baroque, classicism and traditional Siberian wooden
architecture.
-Efremov Recreation Center and Recreation Center
named after Zhdanova. In these buildings, columns and
pylons are topped not with capitals, but with bas-reliefs
representing various specialties. Flowerpots and steles
are freely combined on the roofs of cultural houses.
-Pobeda Cinema (originally called Proletkino). There is a
similar composition on the gable of the building in its
final form after reconstruction.
