Vilnius
Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania, with a population of 565,000. With
world-class universities and research institutes attracting world and scientific
breakthroughs, Vilnius is a fast-developing and innovative ecosystem. It is one of
Europe’s most affordable capitals. Vilnius is 8.03% less expensive than Riga without
rent. Rent in Vilnius is, on average, 22.71% higher than in Riga.

Kaunas
Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania after Vilnius and an important centre of
Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Kaunas was chosen as the European
Capital of Culture 2022. It has nearly 400,000 residents and this number grows by
4,000 each year. Green spaces in and around Kaunas and its cultural life create
perfect opportunities to lean back and relax. Beaches, parks, restaurants and cultural
events are all within reach in Kaunas.
Kaunas is Lithuania's leader in engineering with ~ 8 000 (~20%) of all Kaunas'
students in engineering and technological studies. Kaunas is a comfortable place to

Klaipėda

First things first, you must choose where is best for you. If you’re the urban type, a classy Vilnius city center apartment w ill fit the bill, or if you’re looking for something more
adventurous, there is a growing number of spacious lofts appearing in even the most in demand areas. And, of course, if you are more of the nature type or looking to start a
family, you can find larger apartments or houses in one of the city’s many green and spacious suburbs, which are all just a short drive from the city center.
As in any other city, rental prices in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda are defined considered such facts as:

• type of building (old, renovated, block building, new project, elevator yes/no),
• type of heating (central or individual),

When renting in Lithuania, the use of rental agreements is a standard practice. Agreements that outline the length of residence as more than 12 months must be in writing and can
be fixed-term or ongoing. These are usually signed between two parties; however, it is possible to have a confirmation from a notary. A 1-2 months deposit is usually required,
which is returned after the contract expires or is terminated.

• Personal income tax: general is 20% (if the wage doesn’t exceed 60 average national wages which is EUR 81,162 per year), 32% applied to the income

Compulsory health insurance
Once you have a temporary or permanent residence permit and start working in formal employment, you are able to receive all public medical services free of charge. After
receiving confirmation of your public health insurance, you need to choose a healthcare centre to register in. You’ll need to register in person and choose a family doctor. Here‘s

Family in Lithuania
Moving to a new place is surely a big event for any family. We assure you that both your partner and children will also feel at home in Lithuania.
Family members of employees with an EU Blue Card or an intra-corporate transfer residence permit can receive family-based residence permits. Their residence permit will be
issued for the same period as the employee’s, and all documents can be submitted together at the same time.
Family members of employees with regular employment-based residence permits may receive their family-based residence permits only after the employee spends two years
living in Lithuania. If a family member wishes to come to Lithuania immediately, they should obtain a separate residence permit.

Kindergartens

Kindergartens
For children up to 5, Lithuania offers a wide range of options in terms of both languages and methods. Kindergartens are available with supervision in English, Lithuanian, Russian, German, Polish and
French. And in terms of approach, options range from standard kindergarten models to alternative methodologies.
Registering for Kindergarten:
• Parents and children need to be declared in apartment where they have official rent agreement;
• To be eligible for kindergarten, child needs to be registered in the queue for the municipality's kindergarten; at one time there is possibility to apply for three kindergartens;
• Starting from the age of five children must be given place in kindergarten however the applying needs to be done anyway;
• If there is no free place in municipality kindergarten, then there is possibility receive funding for private kindergartens;
• If there is free place in private kindergartens - children can get this place in any time.

Schools
Lithuania’s multi-lingual schooling systems puts you in control of your child’s future. State schooling is provided from either 6 or 7 years old, and includes schools which use
Russian and Polish as the language of instruction. Vilnius also offers a range of international school options for studying in either English or French. These schools are private
ones and cost approx. 400-1000 Eur per month.
In Lithuania the school year starts on the September 1st and finishes at the end of June. There are also autumn, Christmas and spring/Easter holidays.
Public school education in Lithuania is free. Parents or guardians are expected to cover the costs of stationery and study materials, as well as extracurricular activities like
school trips.
Class sizes tend to be around 20 – 30 students. For some subjects students may be divided into study groups or separated by knowledge.
