Inversion
Inversion simply means putting the
verb before the subject.
We normally do this in question forms:
Normal sentence: You are a student.
Question form: Are you a student?
Normal sentence: You have been to China.
Question form: Have you been to China?

So in many cases we use inversion to make questions.
However, we can also use inversion to:
• add emphasis;
• add drama;
• sound more formal.
