Use
• We use relative pronouns (who / whose / which /
that) and relative adverbs (where / when / that /
why) to introduce relative clauses. We use relative
clauses to identify / describe the person/ place /
thing in the main clause.

Note
• Who, which and that can be omitted when they are
the subject of a relative clause; that is, when there is a
noun or subject pronoun between the relative pronoun
and the verb.
She bought me a CD (which/that) I already had.
• That cannot replace who or which in non-defining
relative clause. That is not possible.
George, who is a footballer, is very fit.
• Whose is never omitted.
The artist whose work I find most impressive is Pablo
Picasso.

clauses.
