Population
• The population of the city of Dushanbe was
1,201.8 thousand inhabitants. The population
density is 5,914.4 people/km2. National
composition: Tajiks — 89.5%, Uzbeks — 6.7%,
Russians — 2.6%, other peoples — 1.2%. In 2010,
the total population growth was 3.46%. More than
12.16% of the country's residents live in Dushanbe.

Historical details
• The ancient city on the territory of the modern capital of
Tajikistan existed back in the III century BC.
• In the XVII century, there was a small village located at the
intersection of roads. The trading days were Monday and
(Dushanbe), and the city was later named after them.
• In 1875, the authorities drew up the first map of the
settlement that became a city. It was called DushanbeKurgan and was part of the Bukhara Emirate.
• In 1922, Dushanbe was proclaimed the capital of the Tajik
SSR. In 1924-1929, the city was called Duchanbeh. In 1929,
he became Stalinabad. At the same time, railway tracks were
laid and asphalt roads began to be laid.
• In 1961, the name of Dushanbe was returned to the city

Sights
• Some sights of Dushanbe:
• The Palace of the Nation. The official residence of the President of Tajikistan.
• The Central Cathedral Mosque named after Haji Yakub. Built in the 19th
century, it was completely renovated in 2015. It is considered one of the main
symbols of the city.
• St. Nicholas Cathedral. Built in 1943, after restoration, people come here to
look at the rich decoration and marble iconostasis.
• The Hissar fortress. In the Middle Ages it was considered a powerful
defensive structure. Now there is a gate with a pointed arch left of it, on the
territory you can see plane trees that are more than 500 years old. It is
located 25 kilometers from Dushanbe.
