technology, education, art, media and other spheres.
It is the largest and most populous city in the United States.
The territory of the city is divided into five boroughs: Brooklyn,
Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.
New York is also known as New Amsterdam or the Big Apple.
The population of the city is over 8 million people and every
year more than 48 million of foreign tourists come to visit it.
Its sights attract people of different professions, hobbies and

ManhattanThis borough is more populated than Bronx, but less than
Brooklyn. Population is about 1 629 000 people. The
territory is about 88 square kilometers. Some of the
richest people live there. There are famous places in this
borough like World’s Trade Center, Wall Street, Empire
State Building, Met Life Tower, the Chrysler Building,
Central Park and the Woolworth Building. There is an
interesting fact: a parking space in Manhattan can cost
more than a penthouse in one of the tallest skyscrapers.

BrooklynIt is a borough with population about 2 583 000
people. The territory is 251 square kilometers. This
borough is one of the most famous in New York. Do
you know why? There is an amusement park with a
Ferris wheel and a parachute tower. But that’s not all.
There is also a staircase that served as the setting for
the movie called “Joker “. That staircase is one of the
most famous places in Brooklyn. That borough has
more Russian speakers than other boroughs in New
York. There is also a small Russian district which
called : “Brighton – Beach “.

BronxThe population of Bronx is about 1 455 000
people. The territory is about 148 square
kilometers. That borough is named after Jonas
Bronx, who was born in Sweden and was a
captain in Netherlands. Bronx is located in the
north of Manhattan. In 1874 the southern part
of the borough was transferred to Manhattan.
In 1895 Bronx became a separate borough.

sects. Christians and followers of
Judaism are numerically dominant.
