What is PPT• PPT – Plasma Pulse Treatment
• Plasma is the fourth state of matter (beyond solid, liquid, gas) and
makes up 99.9% of the visible universe
• Plasma is an ionized state of particle matter which is formed is when an
instantaneous burst of energy is released onto surrounding particles,
causing its electrons to separate from its atoms.
• When this plasma reaction is created in a confined environment (across
two electrodes surrounded by water) it creates a high energy pulse that
subsequently translates into a localized lateral hydraulic shock wave
that propagates through the water and onto the adjacent completion
hardware and sub-surface formation rock.

What is PPTPPT Tool
• The resulting hydraulic pulse disrupts solids in the
slotted liner and near wellbore region and re-activates
near well bore fractures and cleat networks
Coal cleats
• Restoring gas and water production pathways to the
wellbore
• Potentially creating new incremental reservoir contact
area

How does PPT Work?Perforated channels
Are plugged by
Skin Factor
Formation of plasma
Accompanied by a
compression wave
Wave penetrates clears NWB plugging
and penetrates production pathways
within the reservoir
With NWB damage removed and
reservoir pathways reactivated, water
and gas begin to flow again
Periodic pulses (~2 pulses/min) are triggered at target station stops and resulting hydraulic shock waves disrupt solids that have accumulated
across the slotted liner and dislodge the clay sediments subsequently clearing production pathways. Compression waves continue to
propagate into the reservoir environment to further dislodge solids and reactivate near wellbore fracture and coal cleat networks.

Story Board – Slide 1Opening scene shows the well with solids plugging the
slotted liner, across the coal and clay seams

8.
Story Board – Slide 2Next scene has the tool being lowered into the well on
wireline
8
9.
Story Board – Slide 3Tool then stops across the lowest coal seam and pulses
three times, each time some of the solids is broken off the
slotted liner and falls to bottom of well
Each time the tool
pulses it removes
solids from the
slotted liner and
also activates the
fractures in the coal
also

Story Board – Slide 4Tool then tool moves up to the next coal seam and pulses
three times, each time some of the solids is broken off the
slotted liner until clean
The excess solids
will fall down into the
bottom of the well
and fractures show
activation on coal
seam where tool is
pulsing

Story Board – Slide 5Tool then tool moves up to the last top coal seam and
pulses three times, each time some of the solids is broken
off the slotted liner until clean
The excess solids
will fall down into the
bottom of the well
and the fractures in
the coal seam are
activated.
There are still some
solids on the slotted
liner across the clay
seams

Story Board – Slide 6The pulsing treatment is done now and all the solids settle
to the bottom of the well and the tool is pulled out of the well

Story Board – Slide 7The tool is now
out of the well and
the coal seams
start to flow gas
bubbles and
water into the well
and up to surface
