Background
• Aksy is a mountainous and remote region with
limited source of income for the local population.
Among the few crops cultivated, plums are very
important for farmers in this region
• The uncertain supply of plums from Aksy to
Russia faces an equally fluctuating demand for
Kyrgyz fresh plums, depending on harvests in
fruit production areas of Russia, or exporting to
Russia
• With the support of governmental German
programme “The Import Promotion Desk”
potential buyer of organic plums EgeSun was
found

• Expensive certification and lack of national
certification body
• Frost, hail, and persistent temperature
fluctuations have the potential to significantly
affect the growth and yield of plum crops.
