2.

Location
A monument to Comrade Sukhov in Samara on
the Volga embankment between Nekrasovsky and
Leningradsky descents.

3.

History
It is no coincidence that Samara was chosen as the location for the
monument to the protagonist of the movie “White Sun of the Desert”, Red
Army soldier Fyodor Ivanovich Sukhov - it was in this city that comrade
Sukhov lived. In the movie, he utters the phrase:
Original: “Вот, доберусь до Волги, а там и до Самары рукой подать”
Translate: “I'll get to the Volga, and then Samara is just a stone's throw away”

4.

History
The initiative to erect the monument was first put forward in
2006 by a local member of the City Duma, Mikhail Matveev.
Valentin Ivanovich Ezhov, one of the authors of the script for
this movie, was born and lived on Nekrasovskaya Street in
Samara, not far from where the monument is set.

5.

History
The monument, created by sculptor Konstantin Chernyavsky,
bears an almost portrait resemblance to actor Anatoly
Kuznetsov, who brilliantly played Comrade Sukhov. The
monument is made of bronze almost life-size, cast in Smolensk
and weighs 315 kg. It is installed without a pedestal directly on
the ground. The monument was created with funding from the
nationwide program “In the Family Circle” to increase the
tourist attractiveness of the city and was donated to Samara.

6.

History
The opening of the monument took place on December 7, 2012
in the presence of a large number of people. Anatoly Kuznetsov
due to health problems could not come to the opening of the
monument, but promised to visit Samara at the first
opportunity, while the creator of Sukhov's image Valentin
Ezhov passed away back in 2004.

7.

History
It was supposed that next to Comrade Sukhov will appear
monuments to customs officer Vereshchagin and Katerina
Matveyevna - K. Chernyavsky planned to create a multi-figure
composition.
