Charlie finds a mistake
in the calculations of
Professor Nemour; he
realizes that soon he
w ill have a mental
regression, the same
as that of the mouse
Algernon.

Algernon dies.
Charlie buries him in
the backyard.

22
Gordon visits his
mother and sister.
He discovers that his
mother has senility.
Sister is glad that
Charlie found them.

6.

Gordon's IQ is rapidly declining, he is becoming
forgetful. Books, previously beloved, are now
incomprehensible to him. In the reports that
Charlie still writes, there are more and more
mistakes. In the end, they become the same as
before the operation.

November
20th
Charlie returns to the
bakery. Workers who
used to mock him
now patronize and
protect him.
How ever, Charlie still
remembers being
smart. He does not
w ant to be spared,
and goes to Warren
School.

He writes a farewell letter to Miss Kinnian in
which he asks to lay flowers on Algernon’s
grave.

The mouse died

Charlie lost his mind again
Scientists made mistakes
I’ve also thought that Charlie would die,
but we don’t know whether he did or
not. One more thing is I hoped that Ms
Kinnian and Charlie would love each
other and would be a couple, but they
didn’t.

What is the
message?
Flowers for Algernon is a book that says to you:
‘I want you to question everything you know’.
More importantly, it seeks out the honest
message that our humanity is not measured by
how smart we are, but rather by our kindness,
love and interaction with others. Charlie is even
more isolated with an IQ of 185 than he was with
one of 68, but it’s his insight that allows him to
see that he is still the same person, regardless.
