What benefits do employees have in
companies, apart from their salary?

3.

Discuss if the statements below are true or false.
Most senior managers prefer more health benefits to more money.
Most young employees prefer longer holiday to more money.
Companies never let the staff choose their own benefits.
All employees are interested in pension schemes.
Read the article and check your guesses.
What benefits are most popular with employees?
A recent study shows that it depends on the age and position of the person in the company. For example,
63% of senior managers are more interested in private health insurance than a higher salary. However, a
majority of employees under 35 would prefer more money to extra days of paid holiday.
More and more companies are operating flexible systems where staff choose their own benefits. For
example, full-time members of staff can receive extra money each year, which they can spend on a
number of things. These include private healthcare, subsidized childcare to help pay for their children's
pre-school costs, or gym memberships for those who love sport.
Some companies say that their young employees are not interested in pension schemes or paid
maternity leave. They prefer flexible hours, training courses and annual bonuses.
