HAVE YOU BEEN TO
YOUR HOMETOWN
LATELY?
• The last time I was in my hometown was on
winter holidays. I met my family and
friends. I was very happy to see them
because i rarely come to my hometown. The
most pleasant memory is our trip with
family and friends to barbecue. I
have only warm and good memories of my
hometown.

3.

WHERE IS IT ON
THE MAP?
• Kemerovo is an
industrial city and
the administrative
center of Kemerovo
Oblast, Russia, located at
the confluence of
the Iskitim and Tom Rivers.
Also kemerovo located near
Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk.
• The population of Kemerovo is
about 559,000

4.

WHEN WAS IT
FOUNDED?
The small village of Kemerovo was founded
in the 1830s and merged with the village
of Shcheglovo in 1918 to form the city of
Shcheglovsk. The city began to grow
rapidly with the development of
the Kuznetsk Coal Basin, and in 1932 it
reverted to the name Kemerovo.

5.

WHAT IS IT FAMOUS FOR?
• Kemerovo is a major coal-mining centre, with
pits in and around the city, and it is one of
the most important chemical-manufacturing
cities in Russia.
• In 1926–1927 the Dutch architect Johannes Van
Lohem worked in Kemerovo. In a year, he
designed houses of a new European type for
Siberia, built new brick buildings with
communal amenities, which today are called
objects of cultural significance.
• There is one person in Kemerovo - the urban
legend Denis, nicknamed Cola-man - is a young
man who walks in sneakers, shorts, a T-shirt
and a baseball cap, in winter and summer.
Sometimes he can be found walking in the city
center in his unchanging "suit", with an
invariable attribute - a bottle of Coca-Cola in
his hand.

6.

WHAT IS ITS MAIN
ATTRACTION?
• “Krasnaya Gorka” - a museum-reserve
created on the territory of the former
coal mine. The district of Krasnaya Gorka
(“red hill”) is an open-air museum. Here,
on the steep bank of the Tom River, you
can see a unique complex of monuments of
mining, historical and cultural heritage.
The monuments constitute a single thematic
complex associated with the development of
the coal industry of Kuzbass. The
exposition “Coal Mine” is open in the
basement of the museum.

7.

WHAT IS ITS
MAIN ATTRACTION?
• Chudes (Miracles) Park - the oldest park in
Kemerovo opened more than 80 years ago, a
great place for families. Playgrounds with
safe swings and carousels for kids, rides of
varying degrees of extremeness, sports
grounds, the Children’s Railway, a ferris
wheel attract a lot of visitors. There are
several cafes in the park; in the evenings,
artists perform on stages.

8.

WHAT IS ITS
MAIN ATTRACTION?
• Tomsk Pisanitsa - it is a special museum in the
Kemerovo. It all began with the discovery of
ancient drawings or letters on the coastal
cliffs. Hence the name - pisanitsa, which gave
the name for cliffs - the Scripture Rocks, and
for the nearby settlement - the Scripture
village. With the years (especially in the last
20 years) were created expositions telling
about the mythology of the peoples living in
Siberia, and in particular, in Kuzbass,
architectural and ethnographic complexes, a
small zoo and other attractions.

9.

WHAT SHOULD VISITORS BEWARE OF?
• The climate is a significant disadvantage of the city. The temperature in winter
can reach -40 degrees, snow falls at the end of October. According to city
rumors, the Kirovsky district is an unfavorable place in the city. It is untidy,
the houses are old, in my opinion it spoils the appearance of the city. It's
better not to go there at night.
