Have you been to your
home town lately?
I think I’m the lucky one! Now I am going through one
of the most important stages of life in my Home town,
in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, in the
"Venice of the North". I don't have to go far to see
memorable places, it's enough for me to go out, because
I am in my hometown ALWAYS.

3.

Where is it on the map?
It is located in the north-west of the country, on
the coast of the Gulf of Finland and at the
mouth of the Neva River. It borders on the
Leningrad region, also has maritime borders
with Finland and Estonia. Occupying the coast
of the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland adjacent
to the mouth of the Neva River and numerous
islands of the Neva Delta, the city stretches
from northwest to southeast for 90 km. The
highest place within the city: Duderhof heights
near Krasnoye Selo with a maximum height of
176 m[21]. On the territory of the city there is a
zero mark of the height and depth reference
system, which serves as a starting point for the
leveling networks of several states[22]. Until the
beginning of the 20th century, the meridian
passing through the observatory located in the
city was used as a zero for counting
geographic longitude on the maps of the
Russian Empire.

4.

When was it founded?
I guess many people know that on May 16 (27), 1703,
on the day of the Holy Trinity, Peter I founded a
fortress at the mouth of the Neva River on Hare
Island. This day is considered the day of foundation
of St. Petersburg. In November 1703, in memory of
the fact that the fortress was founded on the day of
the Holy Trinity, the first temple, the Trinity Church,
was opened in the city. It was here that in 1721 Peter
took the title of emperor.

5.

What is it famous for?
St. Petersburg is famous for its magnificent architecture.
There is simply a huge number of architectural monuments
here, and numerous museums testify to the history of the city
rich in important events.
More than a hundred theaters successfully operate in St.
Petersburg, whose teams regularly put on cult performances.
Bookshops and shops are located in the historical part of the
city in memorial houses.
For those who prefer museums, the doors of the Hermitage,
the Russian Museum, the Kunstkamera and other museums
with very rich collections of exhibits are open.
Numerous palaces, cathedrals and gardens attract many
tourists to the city.
The city itself and its suburbs (Pushkin, Lomonosov, Kronstadt,
Strelna, Pavlovsk, Peterhof) are always crowded with tourists.
There are especially many of them in the summer, so when
planning an excursion, keep in mind that sometimes you will
have to stand in lines. The most popular is Peterhof.

6.

What is its main attraction
from your point of view?
I can not name one park or knowledge that could be
considered the main attraction of St. Petersburg. However, in
my opinion there is something that distinguishes my hometown
from others. This is a special kind of cathedrals. I can safely
call the Cathedrals of St. Petersburg Unique. I believe that
every self-respecting tourist should at least once go on an
excursion to the Smolny Cathedral or climb onto the roof of St.
Isaac's Cathedral

7.

What should visitors beware of?
I will tell two important things in my opinion that tourists should beware of.
The first - changeable St. Petersburg weather. Due to the climate peculiarities typical
for the North-West region, any surprises can often be expected from the weather within
one day. Almost all dangerous meteorological phenomena are observed on the
territory of St. Petersburg: strong winds, including squalls and tornadoes, snowfalls and
blizzards, ice, fog, severe frosts and heat, short-term intense downpours and prolonged
rains, thunderstorms, hail, forest fires, drought , floods and more.
The second - bridges. When ice floats along the Neva and the white nights, beloved
by the guests of the city, come along with the warmth, the drawing of bridges returns a magical performance for some and a headache for everyone else. In order not to
stay overnight on the other side, you need to familiarize yourself with the schedule for
drawing bridges, which appears immediately on the eve of the start of navigation
along the Neva and is periodically adjusted.
