ages. Valentine’s Day is a time when

The holiday is named
after two among the
numerous Early
Christian martyrs
named Valentine.

In UK in the 1700s, women
wrote men’s names on scraps
of paper, rolled each in a ball
of clay, and dropped them into
water. The first paper that
surface supposedly had the
name of the woman’s true
love.

The day is most closely
associated with the mutual
exchange of love notes in
the form of "valentines."
Modern Valentine symbols
include the heart-shaped
outline, doves, and the
figure of the winged Cupid.
