PLOT
Freaky Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser), laughed at by his
colleagues for his eccentric theories, travels with his nephew Sean
across Iceland. Anderson's brother went missing in those parts. But he
left behind a memory - the book "Journey to the Center of the Earth",
supplied with a huge number of notes. Among these marks, they find
the name of a famous professor, but after arriving in Iceland, they find
that he died long ago. But his daughter Hannah is still alive, who is
skeptical about the achievements of her father, but kindly agrees to
take Trevor and Sean to the extinct volcano for 5 thousand Icelandic
crowns per hour. Due to the thunderstorm, the cave in which they were
hiding was filled up with a lightning strike and the heroes had to look
for another way up. In the cave, they find their way to abandoned
mines, and then deposits of diamonds. They find themselves on
unstable ground - muscled and sink into the ground. In the bowels of
the travelers, an amazing underground world ("the world within the
world") opens up, inhabited by dangerous and strange creatures.
Having found the "dwelling" of the missing Max (Sean's father) and his
diary in the tree, they learn that in a few hours the temperature will
rise "to 200 degrees" (Fahrenheit), and they may burn out. The
travelers decide to run upstairs.

PLOT
The first difficulty is the temperature regime of the world in the
center of the Earth. The heroes of the film will have to swim across a
huge sea teeming with predatory fish and Mauisaurs, or be in the air
with a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius. They build a raft and set
sail to reach a "geyser well" that will bring them to the surface,
according to the original source. On the way, many dangerous
adventures await friends, such as the battle with the Giganotosaurus
and crossing the magnetic bridge, but in the end they are thrown to
the surface by a geyser through Vesuvius in Italy.
From underground, Sean takes with him a handful of diamonds and a
luminescent bird that has become extinct in our world, which helped
him during his journey.

MOVIE FACTS
When Trevor ignites the flash and the wall ignites with
magnesium, he must burn himself. The scene in the film
was the second take of the day, and Brendan Fraser
really burned himself out in this shot. He held the road
flash too perpendicular and too close to the wall, so the
flames bounced off the wall and blew back towards his
bare hand. The screams he utters were a mixture of real
pain and acting. Production was stopped for several
days.
