• Chuvashia was established on June 24, 1920 as the Chuvash
Autonomous region .On April 7, 1925, it was transformed into the
Chuvash ASSR. Since 1991-Chuvash Republic .It is part of the Volga
Federal district .Area: 18.3 thousand square km. Population: 1352
million. Administrative divisions: 21 districts,9 cities, and 8 urbantype settlements .The capital of the Republic is Cheboksary, located
on the Bank of the Volga river, in a valley formed by the Cheboksary
and Kaibulka rivers . Cheboksary is a river port, a road junction, a
railway station, and an airport . The city's population is 495.3
thousand inhabitants . The city has been known since 1469 . The
most developed industries are: mechanical engineering, cable
products factory , Cheboksary knitwear , brewing, production of
building materials.Other main cities : Novocheboksarsk , Kanash
,Shumerlya, Alatyr , Tsivilsk .National composition of the Republic:
67% - Chuvash ;26% - Russian; 4% - Tatars and other nationalities
