I. Aivazovsky is a Russian Romantic painter who considered
one of the greatest marine artists in history.
In 1833 Aivazovsky entered the St Petersburg Academy of
Arts.
The painter continued the tradition of the great Russian
landscape painters of the 19 century. He created a new
school of painting, making his mark on the marine painting
of his own and subsequent generations.
