• The limitation periodsbasically protects people
from being charged for
crimes that have occurred
after a certain number of
years.
4. Purpose
The main purpose of the limitation periods is that over time the citizen isguaranteed protection of his rights.
5. Problems
If a person was raped, then after a certain amount of time (in every legal
system in different ways) after committing the crime, the rapist will not
be punished for his crime.
If one person owes to another, at the expiration of the limitation periods,
the plaintiff will not be able to return the favor.
6. Exceptions
Exceptions are taken in the most serious crimes, such as terrorism,genocide, crimes against humanity and war crime. These cases are not
subject to the limitation periods.
