The object of the research is the original of Jhon
Lyly’s play created in 1591.
The subject is the investigation of English poem`s
stylistic potential and studying typical translation
transformations found in the first Ukrainian version
(2010).
The methodological and conceptual ground
of the diploma paper are based on the results of
scientific researches of native and foreign
scientists such as
O.M Chernozemova, A. Ya.
Aleksyeyev, L.V Fomіna, L.P. Privalova

The objective of the research is to
investigate stylistic potential of Lyly `s play
«Endimion, the Man in the Moon and define
problems and peculiarities of its translation into
Ukrainian».
The relevance of the research is
determined by the necessity to have an
adequate, correct translation of artistic Lyly’s
interpretation about mythological character
Endimion for effective intercultural dialogue.

Stylistic features of Lily`s play
The choice of stylistic figures of the court
poet Lyly was strictly determined by Elizabeth
court culture known for its allegories, symbols a
well as metaphors and epithets to praise the
beauty and goodness of the English Queen.
Lily`s play is written in a euphuistic style
that is characterized by the interplay of
deployed metaphors, antitheses and parallel
structures. Allegories in allegory combined with
symbol are of particular interest.

emotional exclamation allows to reflect an
interest arisen to the inner world of human
feelings in the Renaissance
Lily`s play is rich in humor, irony, joke, pun
and develops such a fun culture category as wit.

7. Stylistic peculiarities of Lyly`s play

Neo-classic influence determines choice of
particular
expressive linguistic means to carry out the restoration of the
ancient myth with the elements of incremental writing of
dialogues and philosophical thoughts.
Widespread use of tropes helps Lyly to recreate a special and
unique atmosphere of the revived myth to emphasize the cult of
antique ideals and values.
Lyly`s style is characterized by the use of two or more stylistic
figures. Typical in this regard is combination of antithesis and
synonymous periphrasis, anaphora and rhetorical question.

To achieve a detailed and adequate Ukrainian
translation and to keep richness of stylistic
potential of Lyly`s play following translational
transformations have been used: transmission of
meaning, replacement, omission, addition,
modification, generalization, specification, ,
tracing, semantic development, compensation,
antonymic translations.

Problems of translation
To convey the beauty and uniqueness of style
and expressiveness of the original English poem
into Ukrainian such translation
transformations are used as: omission,
complexes with the preposition “for", antonymic
translation, transcription and transliteration.
