• Habitat range: The inhabitants of the SouthernHemisphere. They can be found on the shores of South
America (Atlantic and Pacific Coast, Strait of Magellan),
Australia, New Zealand (Auckland, Snares and Campbell
Islands). Only California sea lion moved north to the
subtropical zone (from the Kuril Islands to central
California).
• Life cycle -about 20 years.

• Breeding: About 15 cubs in a harem. Each male gathers aharem of 10-12 females. Females give birth to cubs in a harem
and then copulate with males again.
• Diet and eating habits: fish, shellfish and crustaceans. During
the breeding season (about 2 months), males do not eat and
hardly sleep.
• Social structure: live in herds. After the first molt young strays
into a separate group. Further life takes place in these young
barchelor herds as long as the animals do not become sexually
mature.
• Current population: 99,000 individuals.
