Snakes belong to the animal class reptiles. They are coldblooded animals that raise their body temperature by lying inthe sun or lower it by crawling into the shade. Their body
temperature changes to the temperature of its surroundings.
Because of this, snakes that live in colder climates must
hibernate through the winter. They will find burrows or
caves and fall into a deep sleep until the weather becomes
ware enough for them. There are more than 2,900 species of
snakes in the world. They live almost everywhere, in deserts,
forests, oceans, streams, and lakes. Snakes live on the
ground, in trees, and in water. Most snake species, around
70% of them reproduce by laying eggs, and 30% give birth
to live young, like rattlesnakes, vipers, boas and most of the
sea snake species. Snakes cannot survive in places where the
ground stays frozen year round so there are no snakes north
of the Arctic Circle or in Antarctica. Some islands, including
Ireland and New Zealand, do not have snakes at all.

TurtlesTurtles are reptiles. A reptile is a cold-blooded animal with
scales. Turtles have hard outer shells to protect their bodies,
and these shells have over 60 different bones in them! Turtles
can be lots of different sizes and different colors, and some
even have colorful patterns on their bodies and shells. The
largest turtle is called a leatherback sea turtle, and it can
weigh over 2,000 pounds! It is 8 feet long- that is bigger than
the tallest NBA player ever! Turtles live almost everywhere
in the world. The only places they do not live are places with
really cold weather. Turtles live in burrows to keep
themselves warm during cold winters. A burrow is a tunnel or
hole in the ground. Turtles lay eggs. Females usually lay
between 1 and 9 clutches of eggs per season. Turtles are
omnivores. This means that they eat both plants and animals.
Turtles can eat grass, leaves, fish, snails, and insects, but they
don't actually eat pizza like the Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles!
