Born on March 9, 1934 in Klushino, Smolensk
region.
He went to school in 1941, but because of the
German occupation only 1943 continued his
studies.
After moving to the city of Gzhatsk in the

42 hours and 23 minutes in the flying
club.

Passion for aviation continued in the army: in
1955 Gagarin was sent to study at the 1st
military aviation school named after K. E.
Voroshilov in Orenburg, which he graduated
with honors. After school, Gagarin served in
the 169th fighter aviation regiment of the
Northern fleet in Murmansk.
By 1959, when it was decided to select
astronauts and prepare them for the first
flight into space, the pilot Gagarin managed
to fly on the MiG-15bis for a total of 265
hours.

about space. In the army, he filed a report with a request to enroll him in
a group of candidates for cosmonauts and in 1960 was sent to Moscow.
