» Ageism is stereotyping anddiscriminating against individuals or
groups on the basis of their age.

» Most seniors are mentally and physically activeregardless of age with a great deal to contribute.
However, societal norms marginalize seniors,
treat them with disrespect, make them feel
unwelcome and otherwise generalize as if they
were all the same.

» Ageism is discrimination or unfair treatmentbased on a person’s age. It can impact on
someone’s confidence, job prospects, financial
situation and quality of life.

» Age discrimination is often not taken asseriously as other forms of discrimination.
However, it can have the same economic,
social and psychological impact as any other
