Ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations in history. It was in North
Africa, near the Nile River. The river gave water to the people. Farmers grew food
near the river. The land was good for plants and animals.
The kings of Egypt were called pharaohs. Pharaohs were very powerful. People
believed the pharaoh was also a god. When a pharaoh died, people built a big tomb
for him. The most famous tombs are the Pyramids of Giza. These pyramids are
very old and very large. Many workers built them with stone blocks.
One famous pharaoh was Tutankhamun. He became king when he was only a boy.
Another famous ruler was Cleopatra. She was intelligent and spoke many
languages. She ruled Egypt many years later.
Egyptians believed in life after death. They thought the pharaoh will live again in
another world. Because of this belief, they put food, gold, and clothes inside the
tomb. They are going to help the pharaoh in the next life. Priests said the sun will
rise every day because the gods are strong.
Today, many people visit Egypt. Tourists will see the pyramids and learn about
history. They are going to take photos and listen to guides. Scientists will study the
pyramids in the future. They are going to discover new information about ancient
life.
In class, students will learn about mummies and temples. The teacher is going to
show pictures of hieroglyphics. Students will read simple texts about daily life in
Ancient Egypt. They are going to write about a pharaoh and his pyramid.
