History of the holiday
The holiday was created to
commemorate the end of the
Great Patriotic War, which
lasted from 1941 to 1945. On
May 9, at 12:43 a.m. Moscow
time, Nazi Germany announced
its surrender.

First celebration
In honor of this event, the first
Victory Parade took place on
Red Square in Moscow on
June 24.On Red Square there
were soldiers and combat
vehicles: T-34, BM-13
Katyusha, ZIS-3 cannon, GAZ

Main traditions
The Victory Parade, the Immortal
Regiment, the laying of flowers at
memorials and the Eternal Flame, a
minute of silence, festive
fireworks, and the St. George's
Ribbon- are the main traditions
that unite generations, preserve
the memory of sacrifices and
heroism, and express gratitude to
veterans.

Eternal Flame
Interesting fact: approximately 5,500
m3 of natural gas or 12 tons of
liquefied petroleum gas are required
annually to maintain the Eternal
Flame.
