The meaning of Victory Day
and its history
Every year on 9th May people all over Russia and
some other country wear St. George 's ribbons.
They do this to commemorate Victory Day,
which reminds people about the end
of the terrible Great Patriotic War.
(9th of May, 1945)

The significance of
St. George 's ribbons
A lot of people don’t know history and
significance of the Victory Day’s symbol
– St. George 's ribbon. It appeared in the
era of the Russian Empire and it was one
of the main award. At the end of the Great
Patriotic War it was part of the reward called
“For the Victory over Germany”. Maybe
because of this St. George ‘s ribbons has
become a symbol of Victory Day.

A solemn commemoration
The parade takes place on Red Square
each morning on 9th of May. People lay
flowers on the tomb of the Unknown
Soldier. A lot of fireworks illuminate
the sky in the evening.
