Biographical Context
Ari Aster was born on July 15, 1986, in New York City. He
grew up in a creative home.
To cope with isolation, he started watching a lot of
movies, especially horror films, and became deeply
interested in them.
He studied film first at Santa Fe University of Art and
Design, and later at the AFI Conservatory, where he
earned a Master’s degree in directing.
His graduation short film "The Strange Thing About the
Johnsons " (2011).
