Hi everyone!

something belongs to someone.
We’ll talk about how to say “my”,
“his”, “their” and much more.
Let’s explore the world of possession
in English!

What is the Possessive Case?
We use the possessive case to say who
something belongs to.
We often use ‘s or just an apostrophe ‘.
[Name] + ‘s + [Thing]
• Lisa’s dog
• The boys’ room
• My brother’s computer

Special Cases
Compound nouns
Time expressions
add ‘s at the end
• A week’s work, today’s meeting
• My sister-in-law’s jacket
Shared ownership
• Anna and Tom’s house (they share one house)
• Anna’s and Tom’s houses
(each has their own house)

Objects and Places
For non-living things, we
often use of + noun
instead of ‘s.
The color of the sky.
The sky’s color
