Dzhankoy is a city in thenorthern part of the Crimean
Peninsula, the administrative
center of the Dzhankoy
District. It is landlocked and
not a resort center, but its
importance for the entire
Crimea cannot be overstated.
Dzhankoy is rightfully called
the "Gateway to Crimea" due
to its key transport location.

The history of Dzhankoy begins inancient times, as evidenced by
archaeological finds in its vicinity.
However, the active development of the
settlement began in the second half of
the 19th century with the construction
of the Lozovaya-Sevastopol railway. It
received city status in 1926. Its name
translates from the Crimean Tatar
language as "new village" ("canı köy").
During the Great Patriotic War,
Dzhankoy was occupied by Nazi
German forces and suffered significant
damage. It was liberated in April 1944.
After the deportation of the Crimean
Tatars, the city experienced a period of
street renaming and changes in its
demographic landscape.

Dzhankoy is the largest transporthub in Crimea. The most important
highways and railway lines converge
here. Trains heading to Simferopol,
Kerch, Sevastopol, and other cities of
the peninsula pass through the
Dzhankoy railway station.
The city's industry is represented by
machine-building enterprises, food
industry (cannery, dairy plant), and
light industry. Agriculture plays an
important role: the Dzhankoy district
cultivates grains, vegetables, fruits,
and grapes.

about 35,000 people. Its strategic
importance has only increased after
the construction of the Crimean
Bridge, as the main cargo and
passenger flows pass through the
city. Dzhankoy remains the vital
"heart" of the Crimean transport
system.
Dzhankoy is a city with a rich
history and an equally important
present. It does not impress with
sea views or palaces, but its modest
work is the key to the functioning of
the entire peninsula.
