and how it affected the world

2.

History of the invention
• Thomas Edison is credited with inventing the first practical incandescent light
bulb in 1879. However, it is impossible to single out one inventor of the light
bulb — many scientists from different countries participated in its creation.
• The prototype lamp was created by Russian engineer Alexander Lodygin. He
placed a carbon rod in a vacuum-sealed glass bulb, which increased the
service life of the device.

3.

Impact on the economy
• Development of the electrical industry. The production of
light bulbs and the installation of electrical systems in
homes and businesses have created new jobs.
• Cost reduction. Edison put the production of lamps on
stream, which lowered their price.
• Stimulating competition. By 1896, there were already
several companies that produced incandescent lamps,
which led to lower prices.

4.

Impact on daily life
• Lighting of houses. Incandescent lamps gradually replaced candles and
kerosene lamps, which were sources of fires and soot.
• The opportunity to work and relax in the dark. People got the opportunity to
do business and relax even in the light of electric light.
• Theaters and concert halls lit by electric lamps have become safer and more
convenient. Artists and photographers have gained new opportunities for
creativity thanks to artificial lighting.
