Equipment used
Equipment includes: skis, boots,
rifle, ammunition and magazines,
clothing, and accessories: gloves,
goggles, headphones, rifle cases and
ski clips.

What is the essence of
this sport?
During the competition athletes run on
skis a distance of up to 20 kilometres,
stopping at a shooting range. The
athlete's task is to cover all 5 targets with
five shots. Shooting is carried out from
two positions - lying down and standing.

History of Creation
The ancestor of biathlon is
considered to be the military patrol
competition, a sport whose rules
resemble the modern biathlon
team race.Officially, biathlon was
first included in the programme of
the Winter Olympics in 1960.

biathletes
Alexander Tikhonov is one of the
most decorated biathletes in history.
During his career he has won 4 gold
medals at the Olympic Games.
Sergey Chepikov is a two-time
Olympic champion and multiple
medallist at world championships.
