TASK OVERVIEW:
For this assignment, you will create a picture of
yourself as a “culture star” and write three paragraphs
about your cultural identity.

INSTRUCTIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Individually, draw a picture on a piece of paper of yourself as a “culture star” (see
attached example). Identify the different cultures, or groups, that you belong to. You
can have as few as three points to your culture star and as many as you like.
Individually, prepare to write three paragraphs based on your culture star:
● In the first paragraph, describe a time when you felt privileged (special)
because of one of the cultural identities on your star.
● In the second paragraph, describe a time when you felt excluded (left out) or
discriminated against because of one of the cultural identities on your star.
● In the third paragraph, respond to this question: You have different cultural
identities (in other words, you belong to different groups), but which one
influences you the most, and why?
Finally, write your project in class and hand in to your instructor (culture star + three
paragraphs) to your instructor on the due date.
● NOTE: Your instructor is your audience. Be professional – for example, your
culture star is creative, but neat; your language is more formal than informal
(in other words, it is not conversational); and your paragraphs are typed, spellchecked, and formatted.
NOTE:
- See your course calendar for the due date.
- The culture awareness project will be scored according to the attached rubric.
- The project is worth ___% of your final grade in COMN 152.
