reading preferences. The last book I’ve read is

me greatly. As for the books I have to read for my
literature classes, I have a huge list of books. They
are mainly classical novels and stories written by
Russian authors. You know, I’m fond of reading, so
I spend at least an hour a day on reading a book for
pleasure.

among teenagers in Zetland. You have found some data on the subject –
the results of the opinion polls (see the table below).
Comment on the data in the table and give your opinion on
the subject of the project. The question of the opinion poll is ‘ What is your
favourite book genre?’

Undoubtedly reading plays an essential part
in our life. That is why I have been doing a
project on what book genres are popular
with teenagers in Zetland. I have found
some data in the form of a table on the
subject- the results of the opinion polls and
would like to present the results of my
analyses.

aim of the project is to find out what genres of
books are popular with teenagers in
Zetland. I have found a table with some
data on this subject on the Internet-the
results of the opinion polls and I am going
to analyze my findings.

As we see from the data, the majority of
the respondents (55,4%) are in favour of
‘’adventure stories’’. Another important fact is that
“animal stories and romance” are named as their
popular book genres only by 27,2 and 17,6
percent of Zetland teenagers respectively.

are chosen by 55,4% of the respondents,
followed by “detective, war and spy stories” with
55,3%. Another important fact to mention
is that about 49% of all the teenagers surveyed
vote for”sports stories”. Surprisingly, the
percentage of students in favour of romance
makes approximately one fifth of all the
respondents.

It is interesting that “detective, spy and
war stories” are almost as popular as “adventure
stories”, chosen by more than a half of all the
surveyed. More than 55% of Zetland teenagers
have voted for them. This can be explained by
the fact that people need thrill and adventure in
their lives.

It is worth mentioning that work at the
project has made me think of a serious
problem. From my point of view, reading is
gradually becoming less popular, particularly with
teenagers. Consequently, they can get
addicted to virtual reality. To solve this
problem it is of vital importance to encourage
students aged 13-18 to read more, discuss books
and exchange opinions. This can be achieved
by introducing extra-curricular classes for Book
Lovers.

Statistics illustrate that there is a
problem connected with reading. It is
obvious that teenagers prefer stories with dynamic
plots and unexpected twists to stories reflecting
the inner world of people. This leads to the lack
of emotional intelligence among teenagers.
In my view, this problem can be solved by
promoting love stories in the school reading club.

In conclusion, I am convinced that
books have a great power to influence teenagers.
Despite some decline in popularity, books are still
read by teenagers, because they help them to
broaden their horizon and develop their mind.
