Let’s Review All the Conditionals!Conditional sentences express outcomes based on specific conditions or
situations. They consist of two clauses, each using a different
grammatical form depending on the type of conditional being used.
Zero Conditional
If +
present simple,
If I drink coffee, I don’t sleep.
present simple.
We use the zero conditional to talk about general truths, scientific facts or
situations that always happen or are always true.
Think of something that is always true for you, make a sentence in the zero
conditional and share it with the class.

Let’s Review All the Conditionals!First Conditional
If
+
present simple,
will / won’t + base verb.
If I wake up too early, I will be very tired later.
The first conditional is used to talk about future situations that are real or possible.
Make a sentence in the first conditional that is true for you.

Let’s Review All the Conditionals!Second Conditional
If
+
past simple,
would / wouldn’t + base verb.
If I had more free time in the afternoons, I would work out more often.
We use the second conditional to talk about present or future situations that are
hypothetical or unlikely to happen.
Think of what you would do if you had more free time in the afternoons, and
complete the second conditional sentence:
If I had more free time in the afternoons, ...

Let’s Review All the Conditionals!Third Conditional
If
+
past perfect,
would/wouldn't have +
past participle.
If I had had the money, I would have travelled to Canada last summer.
We use the third conditional when we imagine a different past, where something
did or did not happen, and a different outcome.
Complete the following sentence in the third conditional:
If I had had more money five years ago, ...

• ‘as long as’
• ‘supposing that’
• ‘unless’ meaning ‘if

• We can decide our own working hours,
provided that we meet all our deadlines.

Let’s Review All the Conditionals!Alternatives to ‘would’:
Examples:
• ‘could’
• I could have picked you up if I had known you
• ‘might’
• ‘may’
were going to the same convention.

might have slept better.
