Before the beginning of the Battle of Stalingrad, the house

of the key points of the central part of the city. The
inhabitants of this house were ordinary workers and
employees, whose destinies soon intersected with the
tragic events of world history. Like many other buildings
in Stalingrad, it was intended for peaceful life, but fate
decreed otherwise.

Heroes of Stalingrad
The defense of the house was led by Sergeant Yakov Pavlov
and Second Lieutenant Ivan Afanasyev. On September 27,
1 942, a small group of Red Army soldiers under the
leadership of these commanders entered the building and
gained a foothold there. For several weeks, they fought
fierce battles against the vastly superior forces of the enemy.
Despite constant shelling and attempts to storm by the
Germans, the Soviet soldiers managed to hold their
positions, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. In total,
about 25 people participated in the defense, among whom
were representatives of different nationalities of the USSR.
