Что такое открытый и закрытый слог?
Слог называют открытым, если:
• слог заканчивается на гласную и
является последним в слове,
• за гласным идет другой гласный,
• за гласным идет согласный, а за
ним — один или более гласных.
Слог закрытый, если:
• он последний в слове, при этом
заканчивается на согласный,
• после гласного стоят два или
более согласных.

Сочетание ph читается как [f]: photo, Morpheus.
Сочетание th читается как [ð] или [θ]: think there
Сочетание ng в конце слова читается как [ŋ] — это носовой (то есть
произносится как бы в нос) вариант звука [n]. Распространенная ошибка —
читать его как [ng]. Никакого «г» в этом звуке нет. Примеры: strong, King Kong,
wrong.
Сочетание sh читается как [ʃ]: ship, show, shop.
Буква «c» перед i, e, y читается как [s]: celebrity, cent, pencil.
Буква «g» перед i, e, y читается как [dʒ]: age, magic, gym.
