Anton Nikiforovich Sevchenko
Academician of the BSSR Academy
of Sciences, Honoured Scientist of
the BSSR. One of the founders of the
Belarusian school of physics. Author
of 230 scientific works.
In April 1957 Anton Nikiforovich was
appointed rector of BSU. Under his
leadership the university became one
of the largest universities of the
Soviet Union.
Of particular interest are Sevchenko's
works on the study of optical
properties of porphyrins, important
for elucidation of the mechanisms of
photosynthesis.

Lev Andreevich Artsimovich
Academician of the USSR Academy of
Sciences, founder of the Department of
Atomic Physics at Moscow State
University.
Main works on atomic and nuclear
physics. He studied the processes of
interaction of fast electrons with matter,
Under his supervision, the world's first
thermonuclear reaction was carried out
in laboratory conditions at the Tokamak
facility.
Awards and prizes: 1) Hero of Socialist
Labour 2) Stalin Prize of the 1st degree 3)
Lenin Prize 4) State Prize of the USSR.

Sergey Vasilyevich Gaponenko
Academician of the National Academy of
Sciences of Belarus, Director of the
Institute of Physics of the National Academy
of Sciences of Belarus.
Sergey Vasilievich's scientific works are
devoted to condensed state physics, optics
of nanostructures.
S.V.Gaponenko wrote a textbook entitled
‘Introduction
to
Nanophotonics’,
recommended by Cambridge University as a
textbook for undergraduate students.
Awards and prizes: 1) Prize of the National
Academy of Sciences of Belarus 2) Francysk
Skaryna Medal 3) Prize of the National
Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Grommer Yakov Pinkhusovich
Born in 1879, received a religious education.
Studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at
the University of Göttingen.
In 1914 he became a doctor of science. In 19151928 he was an assistant to Einstein and helped
him develop the theory of relativity.
Headed the Department of Mathematics at the
University of Berlin. In 1928, on Einstein's
recommendation, he was accepted as a
professor at the pedagogical faculty of BSU.

Sergey Vladimirovich Ablameiko
In 1978, he graduated from the Mechanics and
Mathematics Department of BSU, specializing in
mathematics.
Sergey Vladimirovich is a major specialist in the
field of computer science and information
technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences
(1990),Professor (1992), Corresponding Member
(2004), and since 2009 Academician of the
Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of
Belarus (2003), Honored Scientist of the Republic
of Belarus (2017); He was also the rector of BSU
(2008-2017)
